Still in the Andes

Back in the saddle of our faithful Hilux, we are driving up towards Lima. And what do we see, yes, more dry mountains! We also find lots of sandy areas. We're driving along the PanAmerican highway, which does travel along side the coast line, but the coast is all rocks. So why so much sand? I'm sure a good geologist could tell us, but it's actually kinda scarëy to come around a corner and see the road covered in sand. And notice again no guardrails! So, it has been a scarey drive heading north to Lima.

The sand contains lots of round rocks, which means they were tumbled in water. So maybe after Noah, there may have been some strong rains. In some parts, the sand is full of shells. So, apparently there have been REALLY BIG waves many hundreds of years ago. It's been a very interesting area to drive through.

Note from the photos the odd "taxi" we've encountered. It seems several of the smaller towns use these for taxis.
