Looking at the river from Aguas Calientes Small streets of Aguas Calientes
After our wonderful day in Machu Picchu, we spent the night in Aguas Calientes. This is the city at the base of the ruins. As you can see from the photos, it's a town with no autos, but LOTS of steps! Our hotel was at the top of the mountain, so we limited our trips down!

We left Aguas Calientes using different transports - train to Cusco - then bus to Arequipa. Again, our bus from Cusco to Arequipa being "the best of Peru" was overnight, we had a top level seat, and just a fairly miserable night! However, we arrived in Arequipa and found our luggage we had stored just fine. We were glad to find blue Hilux just as we had left it.

We were actually really glad to get back on the road again with our own agenda. We left Arequipa refreshed, ready for driving & navigating, and looking forward to seeing what the rest of Peru is like.
