Ministerio Agua de Vida

The Berega Orphanage is part of the ministry of the Tanzanian Anglican Church and is located in a rural area with very sparce water supply. Our friends Lemsanya Tisho is the Director and Kristen Matevia Tisho is the head teacher. Lemsanya is also a native Tanzanian. They contacted us in September of 2023 to discuss a water project for the facility. After discussing the details we agreed to sponsor a well for the orphanage. Lemsanya then sought bids from local drillers and we selected a reputable company to do the project. The well had to be drilled significantly deeper than anticipated and the geology is solid rock. However, the 590 ft. deep well produces abundant water and the quality is very good.

Cool Clear Water!!

Due to the unreliable electricity in Tanzania, we decided to install solar panels to provide power for the water pump. The panels provide ample power and the water flows from the well during the entire day. Lemsanya had constructed a series of water tanks at the orphanage to store water when the community well was pumping, so he is now able to fill all of the tanks during the day. The orphanage houses between 50 and 60 people, so the water needs for drinking, cooking and washing are significant. In addition, the orphanage has gardens and livestock. The well produces sufficient water to meet these needs and there is still enough water to share with the community. We went to Berega to attend the dedication of the well in March 2024. The Bishop of the Anglican Chrusch made time in his busy schedule to attend and it was a wonderful day of celebration. What a wonderful gift from God - clean abundant water!!

In addition to elevated water tanks, the orphanage has several ground level water pools that are used for garden irrigation. The children recently discovered that a swimming pool is great fun! Click below to see a video that Kristen recently sent.
