Cattle on the road

 Horse carts on the road

 Lots of volcanos

 Iguanas for sale

San Jose to Nicaragua was a pleasant drive. Again, lots of fruit for sale, with the wonderful smell of pineapple everywhere. Getting out of Costa Rica went quickly, no need to "donate" funds to not inspect our luggage. But getting into Nicaragua - well, that's another story! The line of trucks was incredible. We were stopped to the point of turning off our engine. We started talking to a boy on the side of the road, and he told us some of these trucks had been waiting to enter Nicaragua for 2 to 3 days! Fortunately, a policeman directed us in front of the trucks. Another 3 hours of paperwork. We were fumigated again (this makes 3 times, not a single bug can live on our truck), had to buy another auto insurance policy ($17), a $14 visa, and lots more stamping. We felt right at home, right away. There were cattle in the road and horse carts. The difference in the cattle is that a boy road a bike holding a red flag between the cattle and the traffic. This red flag was present whenever we saw cattle on the road. Improvement over Paraguay. There are over 40 volcanoes in Nicaragua, with 4 of them being active. This is one of the largest, and is across Lake Managua. We hope to be able to visit some of them soon. We arrived in Tipitapa around 6:00 PM on Saturday, 12/13. Tipitapa is the home of the MEFEL camp. This is also where our friends, Ronnie & Angi Hopkins serve as missionaries. We were glad to reach our first goal after 52 days of driving. Mileage from Asuncion to Tipitapa is 10,995 kilometers, or 6,817 miles. We are ready for a rest from driving!
