Sign to Chinandega Statue as enter the town More volcanoes
Our final goal was Chinandega, Nicaragua. We are planning on living in this community, which is northwest of the capital city of Managua. It has a population of 441,000, and offers several large supermarkets. This will be a plus for us after living for 6 years in Santani, Paraguay.

However, Chinandega is considered the hottest part of Nicaragua. When we were there on Sunday, 12/14, it was about 75 degrees. They told us "welcome to winter, this is as cold as it gets"!

We, again, felt right at home as we saw chickens in the road, trucks that you wonder how they are running, and even sesame growing. Chinandega is about 164 km (102 miles) from Managua, which is about the same distance as Santani is from the capital Asuncion.

The photos we've included are of a sign directing us to Chinandega, a statue as you enter the city, and another great view of the many volcanoes. One note about Nicaragua - SIGNS! Yes, it's been the best country of the 8 countries we've traveled through regarding signage.
